Dwarf Arny Showcase (Part 11) - Dwarf Characters

Now we're onto our final post - the Dwarf Characters.

Here is a mix of all the characters that haven't been previously featured in this series, along with possibly a couple that have.

These first guys are my main characters for games - a dwarf lord, some heroes, and a battle standard bearer.

I can pick and choose from these for most games. However I do have some more characters - an Avatars of War Dwarf King and converted Dwarf Queen shown below.

The Dwarf Queen is converted with steel toe-caps on her boots, a replacement axe-head, and a mohican to complete. I am really happy with the model, except for the fact that I want to shave the feet a little so that she sits better on her base, and to maybe add one or two extra details. If you're interested in getting hold of one, the model is from the Das Schwarze Auge (The Dark Eye) range, stocked by Ral Partha Europe.

There are also a few special characters knocking about, but these don't get used often.

And last of all, I thought I should share my favourite ever dwarf model. It is the Colin Dixon White Dwarf, released to celebrate the 200th Edition of White Dwarf magazine. One day soon I might revisit the model and just tweak the painting on the axe, as that was slightly rushed, and it really shows compared to the rest of the model. However, it is also one of the best paint jobs I have ever done, and was a real pleasure to paint.

That's all for now from the Dwarf Army Showcase. There are a lot more dwarves waiting to be painted and I hope you enjoyed the ride. I'm hoping to bring you more updates on the lead pile soon....

Dwarf Army Showcase (Part 10) - Dwarf Wizards!

Yes - part 10 and the Dwarf Wizards!

I have collected a few dwarf and gnome wizards for fantasy and dungeoncrawl gaming (e.g. Warhammer Quest), and they are gathered here.

Back in the olden days of 1st - 3rd Edition Warhammer, the good old dwarfs had use of their own wizards and those of their close cousins, the gnomes. Dwarfs were a bit poor in general on the magical front, but gnomes were great, and were paricularly good as illusionists and at elemental spells.

The Gnome Wizard above is my absolute favourite, but all of them have their own charm.

Citadel made a good few dwarf wizards over the years - the red and blue catalogues showed several models, and Bob Olley made one for the Iron Claw Dwarfs range (see top picture). There were a couple of preslotta wizards (in the King's Court set and also the C Series). The Gnomes range also featured some wizards (all 3 shown in this article), and th 80s Tom Bombadil figure makes a great dwarf wizard.

Do you have them all? I know I still have some collecting to do!
